When young people have the skills and experience they need to join the workforce, both our communities and economy benefit. That is why, the Government of Canada supports youth and every stage of their journey towards a bright future through initiatives like Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ).
Not only does CSJ allow organizations and businesses to serve families and individuals in their community, but it provides real and valuable work experiences for youth in their chosen field of study, paving the way to a successful career.
The 2024 application period for Canada Summer Jobs has officially launched. Employers from the not-for-profit sector, the private sector, and the public sector with 50 or fewer full-time employees can apply for funding to hire young Canadians next summer.
Not-for-profit employers can receive funding for up to 100% of the provincial or territorial adult minimum hourly wage and all associated mandatory employment related costs; Public and private sector employers are eligible to receive funding for up to 50% of these costs.
To have a successful application, employers must demonstrate that their project is addressing national and local labour market priorities.

How do I apply?
The first step toward applying for funding is creating a Grants and Contributions Online Services (GCOS) account. This is a one-time process that allows organizations to apply for various funding opportunities with Employment and Social Development Canada in a secure web environment. Once a GCOS account is created, employers can then submit their CSJ applications.
Through the GCOS web portal, organizations can also track their application status, sign agreements, manage active projects and submit supporting documents. In addition, GCOS can save business information and past CSJ applications, making it much faster for future CSJ applications.

Service Canada will inform organizations of the status of their application starting in April 2024 and continuing into the summer months. CSJ-funded positions will automatically be posted on the Job Bank website and mobile app to help employers fill positions with qualified young people in their community.
Through this application period, our government is aiming to create 70,000 summer jobs for young Canadians in 2024, with an emphasis on creating jobs for youth facing barriers.
